For November’s Second Saturdays in Winslow, former employees Jim and Marilee Ervien, Nick Paul, and John Smith will explore the histories of Winslow’s lumber companies in their presentation, “Logs to Lumber,” at the Winslow Visitors Center/Hubbell Trading Post on Saturday, November 11, from 2 to 3 p.m. Second Saturdays are the Winslow Historical Society/Old Trails Museum’s year-long series of programs that explore Winslow’s diverse history in celebration of the Arizona State Centennial on February 14, 2012.
OTM’s 2012 historical calendar, “Territorial Town: Winslow, Arizona, from 1880 to Statehood,” is now available! In honor of Arizona’s State Centennial on February 14, 2012, this edition explores Winslow’s history prior to statehood, giving a visual sense of what it was like for the city’s earliest residents. An ongoing photography exhibit of the same name continues at La Posada Hotel from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, and will be on display through early 2012.
Winslow Historical Society members Barb Larremore and Vel Marcotte present “The Sawbones and Stethoscopes that Kept ’em Standin’ on the Corner,” an exploration of the amazing feats performed by Winslow’s medical practitioners of yesteryear. The museum’s exhibit Women of Winslow, previously at La Posada, will re-open the same Saturday at the Winslow Visitors Center/Hubbell Trading Post, where it will also be on view through early 2012. The Old Trails Museum and Winslow Arts Trust present, “Ahead of Her Time: Architect Mary E.J. Colter in the Southwest,” from 2 to 3:15 p.m. on Saturday, August 13, at La Posada Hotel. Museum Director Ann-Mary Lutzick’s visual presentation is free and open to the public, and features images from Colter’s work in Arizona and New Mexico, including La Posada. Continuing in the Hotel’s lobby are the Arizona Women’s Heritage Trail and Women of Winslow exhibits.
The Old Trails Museum and Winslow Arts Trust present the Winslow Harvey Girls’ popular Harvey House Trunk Show at La Posada Hotel from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 9, 2011. This Second Saturdays in Winslow presentation is free and open to the general public, and features original china used in the dining cars and hotels along the Santa Fe Railroad. Continuing at La Posada are the Arizona Women’s Heritage Trail and Women of Winslow exhibits.
