Book Talk & Signing for “Past & Present: Winslow”

The Old Trails Museum is offering a free presentation and book signing on Saturday, November 30, at 5 pm in the La Posada Hotel Ballroom, 303 East Second Street. Author and OTM Director Ann-Mary J. Lutzick will discuss Past & Present: Winslow, the museum’s new Arcadia Publishing title, providing an overview of its content and development process, a question-and-answer session, and a book signing.

Past & Present: Winslow illustrates the city’s history as it is reflected in its enduring sites and buildings, many of which are listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Historic images are presented alongside contemporary photos, the latter of which were shot by professional photographer Jim Buckley (Lutzick and Buckley at left).

Founded by the Atlantic and Pacific Railroad in 1880, Winslow has evolved from a company boomtown into a small city with a historic character defined primarily by its location along US Route 66 since the highway’s designation in 1926. Now known as Historic Route 66, it runs the length of Winslow on Second and Third Streets, which are lined with renovated early to mid-20th-century buildings. 

The featured properties in chapters one through four are presented as they would appear to motorists driving through town along the route: progressing east on Second Street, stopping for a chapter at La Posada Hotel, and continuing west on Third Street. The final chapter features sites and buildings elsewhere in Winslow and beyond city limits that further illustrate the area’s rich and varied history.
