The Old Trails Museum is owned and operated by the Winslow Historical Society, a 501(c)(3) corporation. The museum is housed in the historic First National Bank Building built in 1921. The original mosaic tile floor, marble counter tops and steel vault are all still integral parts of the exhibition space. In 1985, Western Savings and Loan donated the building to the Winslow Historical Society. The Winslow Historical Society is run by an elected board of directors. Below are photographs of those holding seats for the year 2010.
In front of the museum's vault are: (left to right) Mary Heldt, Old Trails Museum Director Lila Atkins and Pat Raygor. Above the door is one of many fine western art originals that hang in the museum.
Funding for this site has been made possible in part by a grant from the Route 66 Corridor Preservation Program, National Trails System - Santa Fe, National Park Service
Membership in the Winslow Historical Society is still only $10 annually per person, which includes a quarterly newsletter with information on grants, projects, fund raisers, our museum store, donations and other museum business.
Mission Statement The mission of the Old Trails Museum, owned by the Winslow Historical Society, a non-profit corporation, is to receive, preserve, archive, interpret and display artifacts, documents and other such memorabilia representing the cultures and history of the Winslow area, and in so doing, engage and enlighten all visitors to the museum.

The Winslow Historical Society is funded in part by an annual subsidy from the City of Winslow. Additional needed revenue is secured through memberships and donations. Income is also generated by Old Trails Museum in the form of sales from its store and annual historical calendar, which was begun in 1992. The more recent ones have featured Cowboys & Cowgirls, Trading Post Families of Winslow, Early Forms of Personal Transportation, and Harvey Girls of the Winslow Harvey Houses.

Old Trails Museum Store Begun slightly over one year ago, our store has already become a popular stop for special gifts at reasonable prices as we buy directly from vendors. Inventory changes almost daily, and we frequently acquire highly collectible items such as this ceremonial dress and unique old jewelry. We also offer pottery, baskets, Navajo rugs, books, tees and more! |
